Future Proofing against Pandemics

Image
The COVID- 19 pandemic brought the world to its knees. It shook entire systems. Millions of people died, families were destroyed, friends were lost and hearts were broken. It has affected lives more than we could imagine. There will surely be a time when this will get better. However, research says that this is not the last pandemic we could face. This pandemic has opened a Pandora's box of possibilities of more viruses like this. While this is upsetting to hear, I would say that here we have the advantage. We have the Power of Knowledge. We should use this power and be better prepared to fight future pandemics. The virus caused so much destruction because we made a lot of mistakes along when we were trying to fight it. We didn’t start research sooner, proper information could not reach the public, we couldn’t enforce the preventive medical system on time due to the unpreparedness and we lacked proper treatment facilities. These are the areas that need to be focused. Below I have

Thoughts of Ocean or Ocean of Thought?

Happy World Oceans Day ! June 8th is World Oceans Day to celebrate the oceans and the major role it plays in our life. They constitute more than 70% of the world's surface.  “How inappropriate to call this planet Earth when it is clearly Ocean” – Arthur C. Clarke They are the elixir of life, the reason we or the matter of fact any living being exist. They are the most incredible thing in the universe. It is home to 228,450 known species and as many as 2 million more that remain a total mystery. It also adds to the beauty and aesthetic of the earth. I mean how would you get your aesthetic beach sunset pictures?  All the beautiful beaches? Discussions about all the weird fishes that live in the depths of our oceans.   However this day is not about the beauty of Oceans, it is to bring to notice the harm that human actions are causing the oceans. Over 90% of the big fish Population is depleted and 50% of Coral Reefs are destroyed. The oceans have become a garbage dump with plastics f

Thank you for all the love I received on my last blog . You all inspire me to keep following my passion and I am so thankful for that.  In this blog, I want to talk about the Teens . I am 16 years old and I have a lot of faith in the current generation of teens. While a lot of people will argue that they don’t, I see teenagers around me and on the internet too. I am always amazed by them. I want to talk about 4 famous teenagers who I am inspired by. While there are more, these 4 make the blog because of the diversity in the things they do. I had to start with Greta Thunberg. She is a 17 year old Swedish environmental activist who is internationally known for challenging world leaders to take immediate action for climate change mitigation. If you have read my blog on how the Idea of Tynkrr came to being you would know that she had a big effect in inspiring me to start Tynkrr. She openly criticises world leaders for their failure to take what she considers sufficient action to address

Future. It is something we don’t know about and yet we think about it the most. Sometimes thinking about the future is exciting to what comes in the future. However most of the time it is worry. People wonder what would happen in the future. I am people.  The worry and uncertainty of the future has become ever more ever since we have been hit with the pandemic. It has changed the way we look at it. It has shown us how drastically things can change for the bad or good.  We all have certain dreams and visions as to how we want our future to look like. What kind of job we would want to do. What kind of lifestyle we would want to live. These expectations bring pressure. While I wouldn’t say having expectations are bad, they can stress you out. We wonder what would happen if things don’t work out the way you planned it. If you are unable to find success in your passion. You have perhaps chosen a path which does not have a direct path. You took something unconventional but are not sure if

Au Revoir ,IPL!

We are halfway through the IPL league stage and IPL has been postponed Indefinitely. All the teams have completed 7 matches each with only PBKS and DC with 8 matches. There have been teams which are dominating and teams which have struggled. We have had close matches and also very definite wins with huge margins. Our adrenaline has been high throughout and doesn't seem like it will come down anytime soon. I have on my previous blog written about the 4 teams that are at the top of the table in this season. In this I will be covering the rest of the 4 teams. So please read part 1 of this blog too. You can find it here. These observations are till the last match which happened on 2nd of May..  Rajasthan royals right now sit at number 5 with 6 points. RR made a huge change when they let go of Steve Smith who was their captain in the 2020 season and made Sanju Samson their new captain. Sanju Samson is inexperienced in captaincy. They have fared okay this season. They lost 2 of their m

T his season of the IPL is more than ⅓ done. This time there have been quite a few low scoring games this IPL already. Out of 21 games played, 9 games have been under the score of 150 runs scored by the team batting first. In the previous season ,11 out of 60 games were under the score of 150 by the team batting first. There is a huge difference in the way the Indian Pitches are playing versus the UAE pitches.  6 out of the 9 games of the low scores were played in Chennai however in the 2019 season only 3 out of 8 games played in the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium was lower than that score. So have the conditions changed or are the bowlers getting better and better. While 150 is not a bad total, it is below par to what these batsmen could do. Also In 2021,3 out of those 9 games were won by the team batting first despite setting the low total. Hence if the batsmen are unable to chase these totals too, this means that the bowlers are doing a good job which makes the season even more exciting

It’s International Women’s day today ! So, happy women’s day. The United Nations theme for 2021’s is women in leadership.  There are very few women leaders in the world . Right now there are just 24 women as head of the countries out of 195 countries. Why is there such a huge disparity when we have seen that women leaders are just as good as any man. There are so many examples in the world right now. We have Kamala Harris who became the first women Vice President of USA. She is a force to be r eckoned with and beat all odds of being not only a woman but also Black and Asian. Angela Merkell, the chancellor of Germany has been in office since 2005. During the recession when al the countries were suffering, Germany was doing well because of her strategies and leadership. Last year, I participated in the online International MUN ( find my blog on it here ). I was part of the committee of UN Women and my country was Iceland. The Prime Minister of Iceland is Katrín Jakobsdóttir who is also

Times are tough. There is so much conflict in the world. We feel more divided than united. . Right now, feels like the perfect time to say that humans are cruel and have no hope. I would like to stop you right there.  Below I will be telling you about a short story I read called "what men live" by Leo Tolstoy. Leo Tolstoy was a Russian writer who is regarded as one of the greatest authors of all time. He was a soldier in Crimean war and had seen the harshness of war. He still write this story about humanity. It has to be one of the best short stories I have ever read and I would recommend it to all of you. This story might help revive your faith in us. In this story, there are 3 questions about mankind whose answer needs to be found by a man. The first question is “What dwells in humans?” What is one quality that all humans inherently have? The answer is LOVE. We all love to love. And whenever I think about how important love is, I remember one of my most favourite books
